NBC Vancouver 2010 Olympics iPhone App

NBC recently released the NBC Olympics iPhone App so you can track results and highlights of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. I downloaded the App to compare it with the 2010 Official Olympics Games iPhone App. With the NBC Olympics App you can view all the action with live real-time updates for every event. You can also check out NBC Olympics video clips and highlights, news stories for every sport, results, schedules and updated medal counts. Plus, you can follow your favorite nations, sports and athletes on Facebook and Twitter.

Unfortunately, video clips are only available to US users which you would have hoped NBC would have negotiated with TV networks in the countries where the App is released. The 2010 Olympic Games is in Vancouver, Canada and the App has been released to the Canada App Store, so the user base is both US and Canadian users. You would expect the video clips to work. I have not checked but the App is probably also available in some of the other countries App Stores.

Otherwise, the NBC Olympics App will let you know when things happen, as they happen? You can set up push notifications for your favorite sports, so you won't miss a single event. The NBC TV schedule will help you find the events you want on NBC Olympics' on-air coverage. You can also participate in Public and Private Groups, powered by Huddle, where you and your friends can discuss everything  about the Olympics. You can also send comments by SMS so your friends won't feel left out.

• A second-by-second countdown to Vancouver

Besides video clips not being available to users in countries other than the US, the menu system is a little confusing. I found the 2010 Official Olympic Games App's menu to be a lot easier to navigate. I think I am sticking to the Official App.
