Should You Wait for iPad 2.0?

The most important aspect of the iPad is the content Apple will be able to deliver and deliver it on the gorgeous LED-backlist glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display. You'll be able to interact with the content the same as you would flipping through the pages of a book or newspaper. But should you wait for iPad 2.0? Let's take a look at some of the features missing from the iPad that everyone has been talking about since the iPad was announced.
  • No Multitasking - The iPad like its smaller sibling, the iPhone or iPod Touch, can only run one App at a time. Is this truly a deficiency? Most users only use one App at a time and with iPad's 1GHz Apple A4 custom-designed, high-performance processor Apps should launch in a very acceptable time. So having multiple Apps open at the same time is not necessary.
  • 64GB Memory - The maximum memory size on the iPad is 64GB. Since you can sync the iPad with a Mac you really do not need a lot of space to store movies. In any case how many movies can you really watch at one time and do you really need to store every song you have on your iPad.
  • 10 Hour Battery - Apple specifications indicate 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music. If you intend to watch movies and read books non-stop for 10 hours on your iPad as you cross the globe in a plane then the battery time is not enough. Most of us have meals and watch the in-flight entertainment on board and only use our laptops in between, so 10 hours is more than enough. A whole industry of thin, light weight battery packs for the iPad will surely be available for those who need them.
  • No Adobe Flash - The iPhone has been around for over two years now and users have been able to do without Flash. The industry is moving towards HTML 5 with many companies already re-doing their websites, removing Flash from their sites. I think the success of the iPhone with the potential to advertise to millions of mobile users is more important to companies than using Flash.
  • No Camera - You would not be taking photo's with the iPad like you would with an iPhone but having a forward facing camera when you talking on Skype would be very useful. For some this could be worth the wait and there is proof the iPad has a placeholder in it's hardware for a camera. Apple might surprise us with an iPad with a camera when it ships iPad 1.0 in late March.
I am one of those users who would like to replace my 13" MacBook Pro with an iPad when I am casually enjoying my time in the kitchen or family room. I use Skype to communicate to my family who are out of town and the iPad would be perfect for this. So if Apple does not ship iPad 1.0 with a camera I would definitely have to wait for the iPad 2.0.
