GolfShot: Golf GPS App

Being an avid golfer, I am always away on golf trips and and playing new courses. Some courses provide a GPS right on your golf cart but many do not. Also most of the time I prefer walking the course so I have no access to a GPS except for the course layout on the back of the scorecard. Many courses are also no longer marking their sprinkler heads or the 150 and 200 yard distances to the middle of the green. So I recently purchased the GolfShot GPS App ($29.99), by Shotzoom Software, for my iPhone and was pleasantly surprised at the features as well as its accuracy. You have to ensure your iPhone is fully charged before going on course and you also have downloaded course information when you have access to wireless to avoid costly 3G and roaming charges when you are out of town.

The GolfShot GPS provides you with a GPS Rangefinder with:
  • Distances to the Front, Center and Back of Green
  • Up to 40 professionally-mapped targets per hole.
  • A GPS Aerial view with TouchPoint positioning, you can touch a target anywhere on the hole and get distances to that point and from that point to the green.
  • Ideal layup distances for your approach clubs
  • Distance tracking of any shot
  • 33,000+ courses worldwide ready to play
  • Scorecard that is easy and efficient to enter your scores and that generates PGA Tour quality statistics and allows golfers to share and compare their rounds.
GPS and Aerial views require an an internet connection (Edge, 3G or Wifi) and require that a Google Maps image of the course is available. Non-GPS iPhone users get the ability to view hole distances from their selected tee-box, and plan their approach shots with TouchPoint positioning – touch a target anywhere on the hole and get distances to that point from your selected tee-box and from that point to the green.

After you enter your scores and complete the round, the scorecard is saved on your iPhone, automatically sent your email address as well as uploaded to the GolfShot website where you can view the scorecard and statistics. The scorecard has the following features:
  • Keep score for up to four golfers
  • Simple score entry
  • Rotated full-round traditional scorecard view
  • Optional handicap play with your USGA, CONGU, EGA, or RCGA handicap
  • Stableford scoring
  • Automatic course handicap calculator
  • Net score and stroke score display
  • View statistics during and after your round
  • Get email and online scorecards
  • View, edit and enter past round scorecards
The GolfShot GPS App also has some great statitics that it presents from the scores and information you enter each round. Statistics include:
  • Fairways Hit, Missed Left & Right
  • Greens in Regulation
  • Recovery Scrambling
  • Sand Saves
  • Putts per Hole and per GIR
  • Scoring Averages on Par 3’s, 4’s and 5’s
  • Scoring Percentages

  1. I've used the GolfShot for my last 7 rounds and the accuracy has been spot on with my playing partners Callaway and Bushnell rangefinders. I have also entered my scores and GolfShot saved my rounds on my iPhone as well as uploaded them to their website. The website then sends you a copy in email. The stats are also awesome. Way to go GolfShot.
